Learning Garden – Building New Beds

Dahlias work extremely well as border plants and in pots and as an added benefit the bees and butterflies love them. Pictured below are some dahlia varieties that work particularly well in the garden border, including Rembrandt which grows to about 12″ tall and Bonne Esperance which grows to 18 to 24″.
Ever wondered what dahlia growers and sellers are talking about when they say Vassio Meggos is an “A ID L LV10” or Mr Ralph is a “B FD DB BR/OR”? Confused about the difference between a “Formal Dec” and an “Informal Dec”? Not quite sure what the following sentence means “The ray florets are involute…
In 1946 the Victoria Gladiolus Club was created and it held annual shows in the Crystal Gardens. In 1951 or 1952 two Club members, Bill Kempster and Dorothy Eveleigh started growing dahlias and exhibiting them in the Club shows which were then held in the Victoria Curling Rink.
